Lauded as “one of the most sensitive and creative guitarists in a city filled with them”(Chicago Tribune), Neal Alger has performed or recorded with Howard Levy, Vitor Gonçalves, Typhanie Monique, Grazyna Augusick, and Patricia Barber. Neal just released his first leader recording in many years on Calligram Records titled Old Souls, featuring his new straight-ahead jazz quintet and exclusively original compositions. As a busy sideman, Alger also successfully navigates other genres of music, performing regularly with New Black Renaissance (R&B/Soul) and Bossa Tres (Brazilian samba).
Heralded for his “solos of mercurial poetry and high craft” (Chicago Tribune), Chicago-based trumpeter/composer Chad McCullough has received wide critical acclaim for his musical pursuits. He’s a member or frequent collaborator with many musicians/ensembles, including Bram Weijters, Matt Ulery, Roger Ingram, Ryan Shultz, Luke Malewicz, and Rob Clearfield. He co-owns a brand-new jazz record label Calligram Records, which features his own latest release The Charm of Impossibilities, an intriguing jazz work based on the compositional process of composer Olivier Messiaen.
As top-call sidemen in Chicago, bassist Larry Kohut and drummer Jon Deitemyer have accompanied countless jazz luminaries in the city and internationally.
