*Project band, features violinist Samuel “Savoirfaire” Williams and Ethan Adelsman on violin and draws its main inspiration from the 1963 recording entitled “Duke Ellington’s Jazz Violin Session” (released on Atlantic Records). The Duke Ellington Project band seeks to shine a spotlight on racial inequality which exists in the jazz scene in the US. The band is made up of Chicago based musicians from the North and South sides of the city, two sides which have been systemically and largely racially divided since the city’s founding, and today’s jazz scene still suffers the effects of this division.*
